作者介绍：

菲利普·胡克

●苏富比拍卖行资深董事、印象派与现代艺术部高级总监，拥有40余年的艺术品交易与拍卖专业经验。2012年，在胡克先生主持的苏富比年度拍卖会上，创造了截至当时世界拍卖史上书画艺术品的最高成交价——著名画家爱德华‧蒙克的经典作品《呐喊》以1.19亿美元成交。

●作为作家，胡克先生著作颇丰，目前已著有五部小说和两部艺术史著作。其中《苏富比的早餐》荣获《星期日泰晤士报》《旁观者》《金融时报》《卫报》《星期日邮报》等媒体评选出的“年度最佳图书”之一。

●1978年到2003年间，胡克先生担任BBC电视节目《古董巡回秀》的常驻嘉宾，这是BBC有史以来播出周期最长的节目之一，多国电视台均有翻拍。

The artist as bohemian is an important part of the myth of art. Their bohemianism is a badger of their anionted state, a reminder that art is special. And financially valuable.

...in the art buyer's imagination those phases of (creative) blockage add value to what ultimately emerges from the artist. No pain, no gain.

we see them at odds with themselves and others,perpetually lonely and ailing, carved out with wretchedness, their manhood falling to pieces about them and only the bright jewel of their creative rage burning in the centre of the wreckage.

Oscar Kokoschka even claimed it as an artistic privilege: "my work contains everything that will die with me," he wrote to Anna Kallin in 1923, "and nothing will reach beyond me or outlive me. The only right an artist has in a materialistic age is that when he has no more illusions left---that is, when he is exhausted---he has the freedom to take his own life."

Leaning on a bridge, I contemplate with pleasure those grand iron tracks, which can be charming in the absence of steam engines. Bevelled slopes cut through green fields showing great sandy yellow trenches, a blue sky, rail crossings and gentle curves, are those not paintings just waiting for a new landscape painter? Industry mixed with nature has its poetic side: the point is to see it and be inspired.
